University Profile

The University College London, University of London was founded in 1826. The College is the largest of over 50 colleges and institutes that make up the federal University of London. The college is popularly known as UCL and is located in the Bloomsbury Area. Many of the institutions are close to the college, including the University of London Computer Centre (ULCC), the University of London Union (ULU), and Senate house, which houses the University administration as well as the University of London library and some other small institutes.

The University College London, University of London, was the first university in England to admit students of any race, class or religion, and the first to welcome women on equal terms with men. The College established a teaching programme in which religious beliefs would not constrain the dissemination of knowledge and exploration of ideas. The students enrolled in various courses in the university college London also includes students from outside London and from overseas.

The college offers a wide range of courses for its students. It External Programmes offer distance-learning opportunities up to PhD level for students throughout the world. England’s first student union was established in 1893 in the University College London, University of London.
