The University of Kent was granted its Royal Charter in 1965. The University is a U.K. higher education institution funded by the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE). The main campus is The University of Kent at Canterbury covering 300 acres just over a mile from Canterbury's city centre.
The University of Kent at Medway campus was founded in 2000 in conjunction with Mid-Kent College. However, in September 2005, the University of Kent at Medway moved from its Horsted premises to the newly developed Pembroke campus, which it shares with the Universities of Greenwich, Canterbury Christ Church University, Mid-Kent College and University College for the Creative Arts. The University has three associate colleges: Canterbury College, Mid-Kent College, and South Kent College.
At present, the total number of students at the University is 15,108. There are three term dates for taking admission in various programmes offered by the University of Kent. The first term is termed as Autumn term, which ranges from 26 September 2005 to 16 December 2005. The second term is Spring Term (9 January 2006 – 31 March 2006). And, the third term is Summer Term (2 May 2006 – 9 June 2006). There are three faculties in the University, comprising an overall 20 departments: Faculty of Humanities; Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medical Studies; and Faculty of Social Sciences.
