The University of Edinburgh was established in 1582 by a Royal Charter granted by James VI. The University has been rated 1st in Scotland and 5th in the U.K. for Research. The University offers 130 students societies & sports clubs to choose from.

The Universitof Edinburgh is one of the U.K.’s top-rated research universities, which offers more than 160 taught postgraduate programmes and a varied range of research programmes leading to postgraduate awards. Moreover, the undergraduate programs offered by the university have flexible degree structure with over 350 degree courses and 200 joint degree combinations that provide its students an opportunity to develop a range of interests beforspecialising. The university has also been attracting international students for over four centuries.

The University of Edinburgh is also one of the U.K.’s larger, more diverse universities, with a current student population of over 23,000, among which there arroughly 16,000 undergraduates and 7,000 postgraduates. More than 5,100 of these students are international and are drawn from more than 130 different countries from all over the world. The University does have a very Scottish character and a wide range of courses in Scottish, Celtic, and Gaelic Studies are available.
