Situated in the heart of Bristol, the University of Bristol is a member of the Worldwide University Network and of the Russell Group of Universities. The University was founded in 1876 as University College, Bristol. It was one of the first few higher education institutions in England to admit women on an equal basis to men.
The University organises its academic affairs in some 45 departments and 15 research centres which are arranged in six faculties, including Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medical & Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Social Sciences & Law.
The University offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a wide range of subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Classical Studies, Drama, Economics, English, Geography, History, Languages, Law, Mathematics, Physics, Music, Psychology, and Sociology. Apart from these regular courses, the university also offers various programmes that do not necessarily require any specific subject knowledge. These programmes include degrees in Ancient History, Archaeology, Childhood Studies, Classical Studies, Computer Science, Deaf Studies, History of Art, European Legal Studies, Social Policy, Theology and Religious Studies.
Currently, sixteen percent of the student body are international students from over 100 countries. There are various programmes offered by the University of Bristol, such as full undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, short-term study abrod programmes in Bristol, exchange programmes and work placements within the EU, exchange programmes outside the EU.
