Established in 1875, Queen Margaret University offers programmes in health and related studies. Located in Edinburgh, Scotland, Queen Margaret University is divided into two faculties, The Faculty of Business and Arts and the faculty on Health and Social Sciences. Students also have an option of designing their own degree according to specific requirements through a range of distance learning programmes.
Queen Margaret Univesity has four halls of residence and a few self-catering flats as accommodation for its students. The library has a large collection of books, journals and online databases. Sports facilities for the recreation of the students are available at its Corstorphine campus.
Queen Margaret students come from over 50 countries around the world. The university has an International study center that includes short summer courses, undergraduate and postgraduate foundation programmes. The university also offers a wide selection of overseas study courses to American and Japanese students.
Queen Margaret University awards two higher degrees by research, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil), to registered candidates who successfully complete approved programmes of supervised research.
The university offers twenty B.A (Honours) courses in subjects such as Business Management, Media, Theatre and Psychology and twelve B.Sc (Honours) courses in health. They also have undergraduate and post-graduate certificate courses and diplomas in health and nutrition, art and dance.
The post-graduate degrees consist of a choice of 6 MBA's in Management, MSc in various specialised fields of Public Relations, and health.
In 2002, Queen Margaret University received The Queen's Anniversary Prize, a top award for higher educational institutions, for its pioneering work in the clinical application of speech science.
Queen Margaret's graduates get employment easily because of the school's links with professional bodies and employers. Part-time students from low-income backgrounds or who were previously unemployed may be eligible for a reduction in fees.
