Lancaster University was one of seven new universities created between 1958-1961 after the Second World War when education became a top priority of the British government. Located in Lancaster, England, the college welcomed its first students in 1964.
Lancaster University has nine colleges, of which eight are for undergraduates and one is for postgraduate study. The colleges are Bowland College, Cartmel College, County College, Furness College, Fylde College, Grizedale College, Lonsdale College, Pendle College, and Graduate College.
The colleges have about 900 students each and on-campus rooms for students. Accommodation is guaranteed for undergraduate and foreign students in all colleges of Lancaster University. Some rooms are specially made for students with disabilities. Students also have the option to live with British families nearby or rent private accommodation.
Lancaster University has around 70 different subjects to choose from for undergraduate degrees. The subjects are as varied as accounting, archeology, defence, philosophy, communication, Italian, environment, media, music, or religious studies. The university also offers postgraduate courses and foundation degrees that develop skills required by prospective employers. Students can also apply for part-time study or short courses through the distance learning programme for senior learners and working professionals.
