De Montfort University is formed from a range of specialist institutions. It is well known for its history of outstanding teaching, learning and research. It was initially called Leicester Polytechnic and was created in 1969 through the union of Leicester College of Technology and Leicester College of Art. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and joint degrees to around 20,500 students. It has around 3,240 staff and has an annual turnover of £132.5 million. It has a well-stocked library including various books, journals, and audiovisuals.
The campus runs the Family Programme, wherein the families of the students are informed about the happenings in campus. It is basically a newsletter, which provides news as well as information about the university.
Research At De Montfort University
De Montfort University is popular for its research activities. The activities are limited to a number of selected disciplines. It has been in the top 50 institutions in winning grants from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. The university also has outstanding research partnerships with leading universities including Bauman Moscow State Technical University, St Petersburg State University of Technology and Design, and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA).
Research students are sustained by the University Research Office, which offers information and direction on the course of action from admission to graduation. Also, the Research Degree Regulations and the forms for submission to the Higher Degrees Committee are available online. Various research student newsletters, conferences, and online support are available.
