The foundation of the St George’s University of London dates back to somewhere around 1840. St George’s is a research-led institution specialising in medical, biological, health, and social care sciences. Recent Research Assessment Exercise ratings included a 5 for pre-clinical studies. The college currently have around 170 MPhil/PhD students and 120 MD/MS/MD(Res) students studying both in full-time and part-time mode in all divisions.
In 2000, the Medical School of St. George’s introduced the MBBS Graduate Entry Programme (GEP), a four-year fast-track medical degree course open to graduates in any discipline. The academic divisions of the medical school include department of basic medical sciences, Faculty of Cardiac & Vascular Sciences, Faculty of Clinical Developmental Sciences, Faculty of Cellular & Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Community Health Sciences, Faculty of Mental Health, and Centre for Medical & Health Care education.
The St George’s offers a wide range of course programs in both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The subject areas include Biomedical Informatics (Medical Computing), Biomedical Science and Pharmacy, Healthcare Sciences, Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, and Social Work. The postgraduate degree programmes are offered under three heads: Faculty of Health & Social Care Science, Kingston University, St. George's University of London Diplomas, St. George's University of London MSc Degrees.
